FAQ - Jamaica Tours

1. Do you tours include international airfare?

Travellers arrive from all over the world to begin our tours and as such it is not possible to include international airfare in our prices.

2. What is a Local Payment?

Most of our Sun Adventure Tours involve a local payment. This is the final payment of your tour price, paid locally. Paying locally facilitates the flow of funds into countries that we travel through and also helps to reduce the overall price of the tour. This helps Sun Adventure Tours keep our prices competitive and in-turn, pass our cost savings onto you. Payment is to be made to Wayne MacKinnon from Sun Adventure Tours upon arrival in cash in the requested currency.

THE TOURS TO JAMAICA DO NOT INCLUDE LOCAL PAYMENT DUE TO THE FACT ALL COMPONENTS OF THIS TOUR MUST BE PAID 30 DAYS IN ADVANCE TO THE VARIOUS AGENTS, TOUR GUIDES, HOTELLIERS, TRAIN AND BUS OPERATORS IN ADVANCE TO RESERVE THE CLIENTS PLACE ON THE TOUR.

3. What are the age restrictions on your tours?

To travel independently you must be at least 18 years of age. Our standard (non-family) adventures are open to children aged 12 years or older when accompanied by a parent (max. two children per adult).

4. I'm a single traveller, will I be charged a single supplement?

Most of our trips do not have a single supplement. This means that the accommodation is on a twin share basis and, if you are travelling on your own, you will be sharing a room with another Sun Adventure traveller of the same sex. Some tours have an optional single supplement or rarely a mandatory single supplement. An optional service that may be available is called "My Own Room". This service allows solo travellers to request their own private room while on tour. The cost and the details vary by trip, so please refer to each trip summary page for details.

5. Can I book extra nights of hotel accommodation before or after my tour?

Yes, in most cases we can arrange additional accommodation at our starting or ending hotels. Please contact Wayne MacKinnon, tour operator for Sun Adventure Tours. If we are unable to provide you with the extra nights we will give you the name of a hotel you can contact directly.

6. Are airport transfers included?

Most of our adventures do not include airport transfers and so we recommend you arrange a taxi on arrival (this is the most economical and efficient way of getting you to your hotel). If you would prefer a pre-arranged transfer these are usually available at an additional cost - please contact us for more information.

7. Is tipping included and if not, how much should I budget?

Tips are not included in the tour price and tipping is entirely at your discretion. Our experience has shown us that Jamaicans appreciate receiving tips and will offer better service if they expect a tip at the end of your trip.

8. Are drugs and prostitutes legal in Jamaica?

No they are not, and for this reason we do not condone these activities. It attracts the wrong type of people to the overall group you are travelling with. A lot of the local people who are involved in these activities are not trustworthy and will steal your possessions as well as the other people you are travelling with. For this reason we do not allow our guests to remain with the tour if this type of behavior occurs. No refunds either.

9. Will I require Travel Insurance to participate on any trip Sun Adventure Tours Offers?

Travel insurance is compulsory in order to participate in any trips with Sun Adventure Tours. With adequate travel insurance and cancellation insurance you are covered for medical emergencies, emergency repatriation, also covers personal liability, cancellation, curtailment and loss of credit cards, (check with your bank). Well worth the added cost because of the peace of mind you will have.

10. What to take?

Jamaica is a relaxed laid back place to visit and most places you may enter wearing bathing suits, shorts, t-shirts, ladies with a wrap are excepted. For more formal dining occasions you may wish to wear more dress up attire, use your own comfort level and you will be fine.

Valuables and family heirlooms are best left at home. Why spoil a wonderful vacation if something you cherish gets lost, misplaced, or the worst case scenario - is stolen? Low key travel is the best way to move around Jamaica and relax and enjoy oneself without being concerned about having to watch your valuables. This scenario is the same where ever you travel. Remember, Jamaica is a poor country, there is no reason to make the people you meet envious of what you have. I will make a checklist of the items you may need or want to take, the final decision rests with you.
